SCC Meeting Minutes

Opening:

The regular meeting of Quail Hollow Elementary School Community Council was called to order at 7:50 am March 27, 2024 the Quail Hollow Elementary School conference room by Chair Mike Sax.

Approval of Agenda

The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed.

Minutes approved from last meeting.

  • Introduction of next year’s new principal, Jef Nalwalker. Discussed the ways that he helped with teacher wellness at his previous school.
  • 5th grade needing help with Safety Patrol from the community. Samantha Madej brought up concerns and needs for next year as she will be heading them up for next year. Would like to ask SCC to help with the end of year party cost and asking the community to help before and after school and at recess.
  • Land Trust-a bigger surplus this year from the previous year. Overage $5577 estimated currently. Suggestion to incorporate music resources in to some of the goals so that Land Trust money can be used to help provide more resources for the kids to use. Estimated Music $1500 Shad will ask the music teacher for more detailed information on cost of needed instruments to see if using Land Trust money would be a good use of funds. Suggestion to use some of the funds to help with the Science Fair to help with STEM learning for the kids. Request for $1000 to use towards Science Fair.
  • Request by Samantha Madej for reallocation of interventionists to 3 reading and 2 math. and to increase software spending from $3000 to $5000. Teachers could create wish list items that we can help with classroom materials.
  • TSSP to cover 50% of counselor and behavior specialist salary to make them full time positions. Vote for approval that was unanimously approved.
  • Request by school staff to reach out to school board and state legislature by the community to address staff FTE’s to help influence class size. Sam Madej will write up a letter to distribute for those that that are interested in advocating for these issues.
  • Positive Behavior Plan reviewed and voted on, unanimously approved.
  • HERO award will be taken from nominations for teacher of the year for the next one. Two more awards to be given this year. Teacher of the year to be presented at an assembly tomorrow in an assembly.
