Minutes

Welcome – Melinda Rosevear

Minutes from SCC meeting of September 2 were approved online.

Quail Hollow SCC Bylaws – will be updated and amended to meet guidelines. Melinda will work on this with the assistance of Mr.DeMill. The approval of the revised ByLaws will be an action item for the November SCC meeting.

The Quail Hollow SCC website is current and required information has been submitted to the School Land Trust website.

Acadience Data from testing done in late September was presented to the SCC by Mr. DeMill. Several grades fall slightly under 80% in the two higher categories of benchmark. Note was made that pandemic interference beginning in March of 2020 has caused disruption of progress particularly with the children in the lower grades.

Mr. Nic Heinz, 5th grade teacher, presented a report on Digital Citizenship. He noted that there will be a monthly message to students and their parents. We recognized parents are more attentive to information from the teachers and Principal, rather than from the district or general sources. Common Sense plus Children and Screens are both good resources for digital citizenship skills. Our STEM teacher routinely discusses digital citizenship with the classes.

COVID Update – We hope to have an outdoor Halloween Parade this year, which could also be broadcast over Zoom. The scheduled Literacy and Wellness Night will be postponed. We will go forward with plans for a Veterans Day assembly, likely presented to the older grades and available to the lower grades over Zoom.

Programs for SEL (social -emotional learning) were discussed. The Second Step program provided by the district for the past two years is supported by Quail Hollow teachers. Our teachers are disappointed the program was terminated without an opportunity for them to give feedback about the positive qualities of Second Step. The SCC will send a letter to the Canyons District Board indicating our support of the program, and concern that it was abruptly terminated without teacher input. This topic will be further discussed at the CSD Board meeting tonight.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 9.

Motion to adjourn at 9:05am by Cherie, seconded by Pat. Passed
