Minutes
Welcome: Melinda Rosevear
Noted that minutes from the November 9, 2021, minutes were approved online.
SCC Member Replacement – Due to medical concerns, Chelsea Morgan is unable to complete her term on the SCC. According to our Bylaws Section IV, Part E, her potential replacement would be Elizabeth Crowther, the runner-up SCC candidate in the fall elections. Melinda Rosevear will contact Elizabeth about her availability.
Mr. DeMill presented Quail Hollow’s internet safety program. It is powered by Canyons District “Content Keeper”, which is adjusted by grade levels. He showed the SCC the type of report available on the Principal’s Dashboard. A student name would be followed by the date and word searched. This service applies to school devices used in homes also. The variety of personal devices which students have available both on and off campus provide a constant challenge.
The walkway from Quail Hollow playground to Cobblestone will have a bollard post placed by the city in the next couple months. Hopefully, students will slow down before crossing that street.
Mr. DeMill reviewed the content of the School Safety and Digital Citizenship Report that will be presented to the district. A few editorial changes were made. Cherie S. moved and Melinda R. seconded the motion to approve. This report passed.
Discussion was held on the overall social and emotional well-being of Quail Hollow students. Teachers can help students identify and name their feelings in conflict situations. The SCC will ask Ms. Akkerman to share data from the Student Risk Screening Skills – IE, administered in January, to us in our February meeting. Mr. DeMill can reach out to parents if serious concerns about a student are noted.
The SCC is sponsoring a Parent Digital Safety Workshop on February 1, 2022. We will have breakout groups showing parents how parental controls and filters can be put on personal devices that their children access. We plan to make handouts summarizing the information available to all parents. Melinda will contact people who might conduct the breakout sessions.
The PTA is sponsoring a Wellness Night on March 1. The breakout sessions will focus on both physical and emotional health.
Motion to adjourn at 9:00 am by Pat P, seconded by Cherie S., passed.
